Q: With this update my computer will not turn off.The screen clears but all else is on.

This computer is the new 12 inch mac that came out this spring.when I updated it a month ago,it would not turn off .I got tired of holding down the power b button to turn it off.I returned it to an earlier back up.It automatically updated again and here I am in the same mess.I think I will just close the cover and quit worrying about it.

    Shut down your Mac. Use the power button if you need to. Now start it with the Shift key held down. This will start it into Safe Mode, with all extensions turned off. Safe Mode is slow to start, so give it time, it's checking a bunch of staff. If it works OK in Safe Mode, restart normally. If it works now, you're done.

     

    If the problem returns after restart, you have an extension conflict. Turn off all extensions via System Preferences. To isolate which extension is at fault, turn on one extension at a time, restarting in between, until you find the bad one.

    Hi Lee, start up in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs:

    Restart holding the "shift" key.

    (Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first. Also give it a little time after start because it runs some maintenance routines in the beginning.)
