Q: Linking airport express together?

Hi guys,

ive got 6 airport express - for a whole house music system using AirPlay. It works great (most of the time) - the problem is this...

Ive got all 6 airport express in one location and each one is available via wifi to my iPhone (each one is called a room e.g bathroom)

Is there any way I can connect one to my router, then link the units together via Ethernet cable so I can turn off wifi on each airport express. I'm hoping by doing this it will reduce interference in occasional connection issues, and possible distortion on the music sometimes.

Thanks the help.

Sure, you can do that, and it will probably solve the intermittent dropouts you're describing. Connect each of the Express units to your router through an Ethernet switch in a "star" configuration. In other words connect the switch to your router, and all the Express units to that switch. You will want an eight port switch. They're inexpensive.

In addition to John Galt's comments, it might be useful to note that the Ethernet switch can be located anywhere that you want, since an Ethernet connection will have no signal loss up to a distance of about 325 feet or 100 meters.

That might save you having to run a lot of long Ethernet cables from each AirPort Express all the way back to the switch.....if it is located close to the router location.
