Some apps (i.e Apple Music) play through BlueTooth but others (e.g. NBC Sports, the phone app) do not. Why, and how do I correct it ?

I mean to connect a blueTooth headset to the iPad mini.
I can play Apple Music tunes and hear them through the connected bluetooth headset. I then stop the playback from Apple Music and use a different application as a music source, and the sounds come from the speakers on the iPad, not from the connected bluetooth device.
Now I understand. However, I do not have any useful suggestions as I have not encountered a similar situation.
