not sure if this is in the right area

I changed my Apple ID and everything is good, FaceTime works on my iPhone and Macbook. However, when I go to send a message on my Macbook, it says offline. Also, when I go to send a message, it doesn't deliver and the person who I'm trying to send to's name is red. I used to be able to send SMS messages as well, but now I can't send iMessage or SMS messages. can anyone help with this please is frustrating the dickens out of me. may God bless Trish

Hi Trish,

Let's double-check that your iPhone and MacBook meet the minimum requirements to send messages with either iMessage/Messages or SMS. When sending picture messages, you would need either iMessage/Messages or MMS.

  • iMessage/Messages are sent using Wi-Fi (provided by your ISP) or the cellular data plan (provided by your cellular carrier.)
  • SMS text or MMS picture messages are sent using the text messaging plan provided by your cellular carrier.

Basic Troubleshooting Steps:

  • When having problems sending either types of messages, the issue is typically with one or the other service, not both.
  • We should start by determining if you can't send messages using iMessage/Messages (blue) or SMS/MMS (green).
  • Is the problem sending messages to everyone or just one person?
    • As a rule of thumb, if a message cannot be sent to an individual, the problem is, most likely, on their end and they may need to change something on their iOS device or computer or with their cellular carrier to fix it.
    • If you can't send messages to anyone, then the problem is on your end.
  • Start by testing your Internet connection. iMessage/Messages are sent from your iPhone or MacBook using your device's connection to the Internet.

The simplest way to do this is to first send a message via a cellular connection, and then, send another message via Wi-Fi only.
