Apple Watch activity

why would there be such a discrep in my calorie out put and steps? I am switching from Fitbit charge hr to an Apple Watch and I can't help but keep them both on because my Apple Watch is so off. I am relatively active, I workout at least four times a week for 45 minutes and get my stepa in mo everyday. I have no trouble meeting the stand goal but my calorie output is so low. I worked out tonight and did 3.5 miles, my calorie output was off my 300 calories. Last night was the same. Last night I was also off by 2000 steps. I burning around 3200 calories a day with my bmr and Fitbit calculations and only reach about 500 on my Apple Watch. My goal is set at 770 per the moderately active choice. Any clue why? Also can you adjust your calorie goal after set up? I've watche tutorials but I can't find anything out. Apple Watch is super disappoint this far for even being able to say its a fitness watch.

Hi

When comparing calorie data between devices and their apps, keep in mind that Apple Watch reports active energy / calories, whereas many other fitness apps report total energy (resting + active calories).

To help improve the accuracy of steps and other activity-related estimations made by Apple Watch, you can calibrate your watch:

  • Calibration teaches your watch how your arm movements relate to your stride lengths at different speeds when you are walking and/or running. It does this - during outdoor walks and/or outdoor runs - by comparing data from the accelerometer with GPS (Location Services) data from your iPhone.
  • It may help to reset your calibration data and start afresh:

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > tap on Reset Calibration Data.

To calibrate your watch, follow the instructions here:

Keep in mind also that Apple Watch aims to measure steps actually taken. It does not report on other types of activity by converting them into an equivalent number of steps taken.

For the best results from the Activity app in respect of tracking steps, try to allow the arm on which you wear your watch to swing naturally (both during general daily wear and, where appropriate, during workouts).

For the best performance from the heart rate sensor (data from which is also used when estimating calories), during workouts ensure that you wear your watch snugly on the top of your wrist. Apple suggests that you consider tightening the band before starting a workout and loosening it again afterwards:

Activity estimations also depend on your personal information. To check that this has been entered accurately and to update it over time:

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Health > Edit (upper-right).

Your Move goal can be adjusted at any time:

  • Open the Activity app on your watch:
    • Tap on the Activity rings complication.
    • Or go the Home screen (via a single press of the Digital Crown) and tap on the Activity app icon (coloured rings).
  • From anywhere within the Activity app, press firmly on the screen > tap on Change Move Goal > adjust the target as desired.
