Q: Display Maestro : Maunually Ending This Program's Running Process?

How do I MANUALLY end the "Display Maestro" program's running process?  I say MANUALLY becuase it seems not a strait forward process of software removal.

I got the idea of using it on my Apple TV from: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6555305?start=0&tstart=0

My Goal:  Watch Family Movies on My Apple TV via Home Sharing (Streaming) using a 3rd PARTY (Non-Apple) Program.  Silly me for using it a 3rd party software.

I need to uninstall this program, but even dragging it into the trash, I cannot do so, as it gives me the popup window:

"This item "Display Maestro" can't be moved to the Trash because it's open."

Trying a Force Quit will not work, as it is not enlisted.

I downloaded it yesterday - but I seem to be having troubles running my MacBook Pro at high speed.

I use ESET Cyber Security, and I see Display Maestro enlisted in its Running Processes window.

Interestingly, I purchased Display Maestro yesterday and the ESET Cyber Security window of the Running Processes shows:

Under the "Time of Discovery" column, it says, "6 Months."

Under the "Application Bundle ID" column, it says, "com.koingosw.DisplayMaestro"

-------

Right-Clicking on Display Maestro's icon in my Applications finder window does not allow me to successfully select: "ESET Cyber Security - Add files to Quarantine"

-------

Any thoughts on deleting this program?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), Intel i7 4GB RAM

    1. Use Spotlight to launch Activity Monitor.
    2. Select the process you want to kill.
    3. Click the X near the top left of the window.

Hi. Once you get that bad guy out of there, you should ask for help on what you're trying to do. It sounds like that app is an AirPlay substitute, but you mention Home Sharing (streaming) as if it was the same thing. Why did you particularly need a 3rd party app to play home videos? Make sure you do a full uninstall of DisplayMaestro, since it's liable to conflict with Apple AirPlay.

THX - Having researched how to go about troubleshooting it, all the processes and remnants of DisplayMaestro are gone.

    Links are to discussions.apple.com forums.

I own and use an OLDER (Mid-2010) MacBook Pro, with which Apple Airplay is incompatible.

I found out about the use of Display Maestro from this post.

I'll post next time when uncertain, to be assured and more confident in the least, of what to install, if anything.

What OTHER programs do you know of that might work for my incompatible Mid-2010 Macbook Pro?

Or am able just unable to ever play my own Home Videos somehow with that older (Mid-2010) MacBook Pro of mine?

The problem is that there is a very good reason that Apple chose not to support your Mac with AirPlay mirroring, which is essentially that the hardware isn't capable. Software solutions are generally a poor substitution, whichever you try I suspect that you'll suffer from slow or unsmooth playback and possibly encounter other conflicts with your system software too.

Instead of using AirPlay, which is a push protocol, you can use Home Sharing to publish your videos and pull them to ATV. You need iTunes on the Mac, and you'll use the Computers app on ATV to access them. If they're not in a compatible format, there are other apps like VLC that you can use if you have Apple TV version 4.

My MacBook Pro is working great and fast.  I now know why Apple double-thought itself.

A very strait forward answer; I like your adverb "unsmooth!"  It will help lots of people upfront.

I don't have Apple TV version 4 (YET!), but I'm planning on it.

ATV?  Do you mean "Apple TV?

I will look into VLC when the time comes!

    Learned a Great Method!

But - I didn't see Display Maestro on it.  Must have been because I already deleted it.

    I's working Great!

I'm successfully watching Die Hard an Apple on iTunes!

Why are you trying to avoid using Your MacBook and Apple TV the way they are intended to be used, what is wrong with simply using home sharing.

And what exactly do you mean by family movies, do you mean general release movies for the family or home made movies of the family.

    - Why? -

To Play Vintage-Recorded Non-HD *.WMV File-Type VIDEOS.   I've attempted to use Apple's converters for those [old] files and the files just don't convert.  LAST DECADE, I Made Many via using a [ $100 ] PCM/CIA adapter with my 2003 Compaq iPaq (during my college years - in which they never cared to teach me anything about Macs).

    - Beamer -

I'm using Beamer right in front of me and playing them works without even having to go through the hassle of converting the files.  Repeating and playing files to my Apple TV with it works like a charm with that.
