Q: Finder freezing or hanging - check Google Drive

Seem to be a number of posts regarding problems in 10.9.5 with Finder "hanging" or "freezing" or displaying strange disjointed screen images instead of files in a Finder Window.

I had this problem yesterday - after much frustration came across this article from a few years ago.

Unsetting the preference, then relaunching Google Drive and Finder (or restarting your Mac) fixed this for me.

This happened out of the blue, have been using Google Drive for years with no problem - perhaps the bug from a few years ago has reappeared ...

    This is a little strange.

I have been using Google Drive for about a year now. I started to have issues last week (actually, probably around the date you posted this thread). Both my MacBook Air and Desktop started to do the same thing at around the same time - when using Finder and clicking between folder it would either freeze or show no files within the folders. It might work for a few clicks and then simply stop - forcing me to 'Force Quit' Finder.

I am not sure why but I have never been able to see the sync status icon or been able to right click and have the share file options like I get with DropBox. I came across that post from a few years ago too, shortly before arriving at this one, and was hoping someone would have a more recent update.

I wonder if Google Drive updated in the background and caused an issue.

Google Drive definitely updated in the background and the new version caused the issue ....

Much discussion in many Apple Discussion threads as well as over at the Google Product forums.

Unfortunately no definitive response from Google to acknowledge the problem and advise on a fix.

At least there is a workaround for now, have not heard any further updates on actually fixing the problem.
