You don't need to register for warranty but if you purchased Apple Care you may need to register that. See the following: Do I need to register my Apple product? - Apple Support

Your product is automatically registered if you purchased it from Apple. If you purchased it elsewhere, you will need to register it and may need your receipt as proof (Apple has asked for a copy of my receipt for a couple of purchases that were made elsewhere). Also note that once it is registered, you will most likely no longer need a receipt as Apple now has it in their system; but, if it was not registered, you may be asked to produce a receipt.

As for Applecare, unless you purchased it from Apple at the same time as you did your device - yes, you must register it by using the very long registration number contained within the little booklet and you must do so within 364 days of purchase. If you do not, it will not be valid.

If you need the receipt from a reseller, contact the store you purchased it from and ask for a copy.
