Where are internet account passwords stored? (not in keychain)

I know the general answer is that you can find passwords in keychain, however, I can only find google.accountsync and google.oauth passwords, which do not correspond with the password of my account. Despite the password not appearing in keychain, when i open the mail app, i receive new email and appear to be logged in into that account. I just want to have access to the password so i can log into the account on web browsers and other computers.

Thank you in advance.

Disclaimer: I don't currently use the mail app. Although no expert with keychain, I have used it to look up passwords.

This might be a search match problem.

Since "google" or the string "imap." have not brought up what you are looking for, try other strings. Try "gmail" or even just "mail" (In Lexiepex's screenshot, the name was imap.gmail.com -- note that searching using "google" would not find it. That might be many posters' problem.)

If that doesn't bring up what you want, try strings that would match your alias, email address, google ID, etc.

If that still doesn't work, repeat the searches with the category "all items".

I am assuming it is in keychain somewhere, just not how you expect it. As a last resort, don't do search but carefully scroll through all login password entries and so on.

Actually, I just noticed in your screenshot posted Feb 25, 2017 9:05 AM where the search string was "goog"

There was a Google Drive match. If you double click on that line, I think you should be able to eventually read your google ID password. I've lost track if that is what you are trying to do.

Basically when you add a 'Internet Account' using one of the options such as 'Google' or 'Yahoo' from the choices. The password is not saved on the Mac, your machine is just given a unique 'token' to tell Google/Yahoo you have logged in from this machine. There is no google imap option in Keychain I have looked.

If you add a Google account using Apples tool you will see that it doesn't save the password on the machine.

If you were to set the account up manual i.e adding the google server address yourself, then you would be able to view the password in keychain.

What are you trying to do? View your google password?

If so, go into keychain, find your google drive entry, DOUBLE CLICK on that line. In the pop up, check the box that says show password. You will have to enter your Mac user login password, sometimes a few times, after that your google password should be displayed in the clear.

More generally, did you do a search in keychain for "gmail" or any part of your email address?

Entries can come up as name: "com.apple.account.IMAP.password" or something similar and yet still be associated with gmail or google - No "google" or "gmail" needs to be part of that name. It can be a part of "account" which will only be displayed if you click on the line (or select using arrow keys) (And have view > show summary set, which you do.) And if you want further info, you need to double click.

If you search "gmail" in keychain, how many things come up? Click on anything and everything that comes up as a login password, if the summary at top of window shows gmail or google or the email you are looking for, then double click and check "show password" ...
