Q: What is taking up so much storage on my brand new Macbook?

My Mac is less than a week old, and already I have less than 2 GB of storage left on my start up disk. Out of 121 GB, 83 are being taken up by "Other" and 22 by "Movies". I'm thinking there must be something wrong with this particular Mac because I do not know anyone who's been through this problem. Being that my Mac is new I know that it cannot be because I have too many photos, or videos, and the only applications I really use are iTunes and iMovie, neither of which take up a lot of space. I've already deleted a lot of cache files, but it only barely gave me 1 GB so that is not the problem. My only idea of what it could be is iCloud because both my iPhone and and iPad are under the same apple account, however my sister does not have this problem at all. I know that I should not be having this issue on a brand new expensive Macbook, so if anyone else has experienced this or has a clue of what I should do fix this that would really be appreciated, thank you!

There is an official description that tells more about "Other", but may not help you reduce it:

There is one known "Bad Actor" in your report: CleanMyMac

You should never run any cleaners, files deleters, speeder uppers, cache controllers or Virus scanners on your well-protected and self-maintaining Mac. Everything you needed shipped in the box it came in, except one, and you will need that soon.

That is a Backup drive. This is an external drive, at least 3 times the size of what you want to save WHEN (not IF) your drive eventually goes bad. It can be cheap and really slow. Then just enable Time Machine with

system preferences > Time machine > ON

... and in half a day to overnight, without interrupting your work, it will make its first Full Backup. Within a few hours it will make several more incremental backups, and just keep doing that, at low priority in the background,  without disturbing what you wanted to be doing.

I now only have 25 MB left on my Mac and I have not done anything but use Safari. I'm not sure if it will back up correctly if I have that little space left on my laptop

As suggested above, (to show you the largest files) OmniDiskSweeper takes about 2.2MB, Grand Perspective requires about 2MB to download.

Provided that your backup drive is large enough it will backup, the internal drive has nothing to do with this.
