Q: AIF/WAV files do not import correctly into another DAW

I want to import an audio file into FL Studio 12 exported from Logic Pro 9 in AIF or WAV format. The AIF file imports but with distorted contents and sound, and I get 'access violation' errors when trying to edit the channel. The WAV file doesn't seem to successfully import; it just creates a blank clip and when I reopen the FL Studio project file it says the file cannot be found. An MP3 exported from Logic imports fine but I would rather import an AIF or WAV for quality retention before rendering. Maybe something needs to be tweaked in either DAW? Thanks for any advice.

If you export an AIFF with distortion, you have your levels way to high in Logic before the bounce.  LPX only exports standard AIFF and WAV files, there's nothing special about them.  I'd look at FL Studio, maybe post on one of their forums.

Try these settings... of course the length will be different. Try both a 24-bit and a 16-bit bounce, using two separate passes.

A sample rate of 48kHz could also be used depending on the resolution of the FL project.

How about "getting another opinion". If Logic says the files are ok and FL Studio says they are not, just ask another app. Open the files in iTunes or the QuickTime Player (also in your applications folder). If the files play properly in those apps without any distortion, then I would point the finger at FL Studio.

    Hope that helps

FL Studio is a PC application... but Windows should be able to play any Wav file natively just by double clicking on it.

Sorry for the delay in response. After some brief tests in Adobe Audition I think I found out the issue: FL Studio doesn't accept WAV files in surround/5.1 format. After re-exporting the WAV as stereo it imports fine.
