Q: windows 10 not loading

i'm trying to load windows 10 on a brand new Mac mini and i've had nothing but problems. ISO on a thumbdrive i downloaded right from microsoft (I have used this for other installations, mac and non-mac) plus i have a brand new DVD i have tried as well (albeit windows 8.1 pro)

its all 64 bit stuff

all "windows Pro"

it gets to the point where it switches from Mac OS to try to find the ISO's (spins up the dvd and everything)

and then comes up with a windows error (0xc0000185)

(it does see both he USB drive and the USB thumb drive on the OSX side)

i can't believe this is just me, but i guess if it can happen to anyone, why not me?

question : i have the brand new ISO on the DVD IN the player, and the thumb drive that has my mac "drivers" also has an ISO on it, could this be doing it?

I THINK i initially had the thumbdrive with BOTH the ISO and drivers on it and it didn't work so i tossed my dvd player on and tried it that way?

any suggestions as to what is wrong (or what I'm doing wrong?)

For 2015 and later macs, the ISO must be on the Mac's internal disk, no external devices should be connected. Run BCA and partition and install. Before next attempt, please run

Can you go to About This Mac and post a screen shot? Please remove the serial number from the screen shot before you post it.

Based on the screen shot you have posted,

    1. Download the appropriate ISO from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/home to your Documents folder.

    2. Click on the first two options, and then insert a USB2 flash drive of 8+ GB. This USB will be erased/formatted as FAT32.

    3. Point to the location of the ISO, when prompted by BC Assistant.

    4. Assuming you have a wired network connection, the USB Installer should be created in about 10-15 minutes.

    5. This USB Installer can be used repeatedly for installation and/or Windows Repair.

    6. Run BCA, pick the last option, and partition and install Windows.

Yes, this is what I expected. A 2014 Model (even if you bought it brand new in 2016) requires a USB Installer. The BCA screen is correct for the specific model. 2012-2014 models use USB Installers, 2015 and later models use an internal partition called OSXRESERVED instead of the USB to install Windows.

    Thanks LT

i at least got it to the point of trying to install windows.

though i'll have to admit i'm not sure what did it

i would have thought having a brand new windows 8.1 dvd in an external usb dvd would have been fine

and the win10 ISO on my thumbdrive is what i used to upgrade a bunch of lenovo's to win10

i let it erase my thumbdrive and start fresh with the iso i downloaded last week and the MAC drivers

and now i can at least get it to try loading....albeit now its stuck at getting ready to install files (27%)

which now i guess is the ISO's fault? i'm assuming? I tried 3 times...

now i don't think its so much a bootcamp issue

i'm going to try and download a fresh ISO from the link you sent and try a complete fresh attempt with fresh thumbdrive, fresh IO and fresh driver download

in for a penny, in for a pound!

    thanks again

If the ISO is downloaded over a wireless connection, block level corruption is not detected. If you post the name of the file you download, I can verify the MD5sum of the ISO to ensure there is no such corruption. If you can download the ISO over a wired connection, you will be better off.

    WOW, you're good

new USB drive, new ISO image downloaded on the wire (instead of wirelessly)

    all done!

and i learned something i did not know. After playing with this stuff for 35 years, i mean working in high tech, i did not know about the "block Level Corruption" detection issue on wireless.

That one is going in my "gotcha" book.

good stuff to know, thanks heaps

so i closing i think there were two issues

1 - the first one was fixed with a NVRAM reset (i think it just just had a boot issue after me trying numerous ways of figuring out what was wrong

2 - the getting stalled at "getting ready to install files (27%)" was the ISO image issue

    in my opinion

thanks, i can continue with my deployments now!

Please back up OSX, Windows and create Windows System Restore point.
