Q: I have the strangest problem with my Mac
I'm running El Capitan 10.11.6 on a late 13" MBP. 2.4GHz 4GB RAM 250GB HD. It's an old computer but I don't think it's a hardware issue.
For the past 3 months I've been having the most frustrating and strangest problem that I've encountered since I've got my Mac. Please bear with me because theres a multitude of issues that I'm sure boils down to one major issue.
Firstly I'd like to note that after 6 years of having this computer I've had to do some repairs.
- Battery - After 3 years the battery died. Purchased a new one.
- Keyboard - Backlight started to break. Purchased new keyboard.
- HD wire - Wire connecting to HD "broke". Purchased new one.
At this point If it ends up dying on me I wouldn't be surprised. On a good day it runs just like it should but under certain conditions something happens and gives me a world of pain. After a fresh restart it runs fine. it's after I start using it that it becomes a problem.
Here is a list of problems that I'm sure is all linked to one thing:
- After using Safari for a while, it starts to slow and anything flash related with crash the webpages. Forced to quit safari.
- If I "quit Safari" no other stock apps will open. They will bounce once in the dock and nothing else.
- If I decide to reopen Safari, it will either display a webpage and quit a few seconds after or display "this website has no certificate" dropdown.
- Cannot move anything to the recycle bin. If there are things already in the bin, unexpected error happens.
- Only after I quit Safari "CrashReporter" in Activity Monitor takes up >90%. Something >100%.
- Attempting to download in Safari gives me "not enough disk space". I have 200gb available.
- After Safari quits, any attempt to log out or make changes in system preferences that requires a password shows "Unapproved caller. SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple Software".
These are the issues that I can think on the top of my head. I have attempted all that I could do. I've rested the PRAM and SMC, NVRAM, reinstalled El Capitan. I've even ERASED THE ENTIRE HARD DRIVE and reinstalled it fresh. Nothing is working. Nothing.
And so here I am, in front of you genius', and I'm looking forward to seeing your replies and to see if you can help me.
