Q: my airport express does not extend my network

Hello to all you guru's out there...

I have 5g internet and comes with router and the signal is fantastic in the main living room but its a large apartment and once I get to my bedroom the signal drops dramatically.

I purchased an Airport Express and it connects to the wifi perfectly, green light and everything, but it doesn't extend my wifi network...

Do I need to have another Aiport Express hooked up to the main router and subsequently extend the wifi from the other Airport Express or should I get an Airport Extreme?

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Do I need to have another Aiport Express hooked up to the main router and subsequently extend the wifi from the other Airport Express

Yes, the "main" AirPort Express will need to be connected to your router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection. This Express will be set up to "create a wireless network".

Your other remote Express can then be configured to "extend a wireless network".  As it stands now, your existing Express is set up to "join a wireless network".  It will work for AirPlay that way, or allow you to connect a supported remote USB printer, but it cannot extend a wireless network provided by a third party router.

As far as matching things up, it would make sense to either use two AirPort Expresses, or two AirPort Extremes.  An Extreme could be your "main" router if you wanted, but the Express would not be able to extend the faster speed capability of the Extreme.
