Screen sharing window keeps resizing

I have recently started screen sharing between my mac mini (currently connected to my TV) and my new macbook. Both are running the latest version of El Capitan. However when I open the screen sharing window, it keeps resizing the window, almost like it is refreshing and makes it impossible for me to actually do anything on the screen. It didn't do this with my old macbook pro, so I'm not sure what has changed. Can anyone recommend any settings that may need altering?

i have tried playing with the resolution settings but no to avail. Changing the screen sharing preferences doesn't seem to have helped either 😟

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

I have this same issue too. I have a Mac mini connected to a Denon AVR via HDMI and then out to a flat panel TV.

If the Denon AVR is set to Mac mini as the input then the resolution sticks when using screen sharing (and Remote Desktop). If another source is selected on the AVR then the screen sharing session is constant resolution changes, every few seconds.

If I open System Preferences -> Display on the remote Mac I can see the connected display changes from Denon AVR to Unknown, back and forth.
