Suddenly Apple Store does not accept my Visa card as a valid payment method.

So, I was trying to update some apps on my iPhone 5s when I suddenly got the message "verification required". When I click on next, I need to log on my Apple-ID, and then it says that I need to "update the payment method". I use my Visa card and I have used it for over a year now without trouble, so I do not know why they suddenly say this. (Nothing is wrong with my card or bank account.) I tried to fill in the card information again, but that did not work. What do I do?
