Do I charge my Macbook air when it is open or closed

I just got a brand new 13 inch Macbook air yesterday and I was wondering what the best way to charge it is?

open and powered on, closed and powered on, closed and powered off, open and powered off, open and in sleep mode, closed and in sleep mode, or while I am using it?

Whatever is convenient. If you are using it and can plug it in that is fine. If you aren't using it, you can just close the lid (sleep mode) and let it charge that way. Mine is 4 years old and I rarely power it off -- it is usually in use or in sleep mode and it is plugged in when convenient. Apple used to recommend (and I suspect it is still a good idea) that the battery be used at least once cycle per month (an example of a cycle would be if it was discharged to 50% twice). The following has some information that also may help: http://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/
