Hello all,
So I had accidentally downloaded El Capitan and on El Capitan I can't use certain programs I need to use. So, I decided to just restore my laptop all the way back to the original OS which happens to be Mavericks. I'm trying to find a way to upgrade Yosemite while being on Mavericks. It's nowhere in the app store, not even in the purchase section.

I'm afraid Yosemite is no longer available for new users. From where you are, El Capitan is the only available upgrade unless you had already upgraded to Yosemite before the upgrade to El Capitan, in which case it would be available for redownload in your 'Purchased' section of the Mac App Store.
I had already upgraded to Yosemite before the El Capitan came out, but it isn't in my purchased tab in App Store. I only have El Capitan in purchased.
I don't know whether making a subsequent purchase of a higher system would invalidate the earlier one (nothing would surprise me). All I can suggest is that you contact Support and ask; but Apple's attitude tends to be that you should be using the latest possible system, and support for older ones tends to be patchy.
