Aug 21, 2016 6:53 AM in response to vibekeftby Niel,If your computer shipped with 10.6.8 or earlier, or you got it on an iLife DVD, reinstall it from a disk.
If your computer shipped with 10.7 or newer or you got it from the Mac App Store, log into the Mac App Store with the same Apple ID, click on the Purchases tab, and redownload it from there.
If the computer’s running Mac OS X 10.10.3 or newer, you can instead use Photos.

Aug 21, 2016 6:57 AM in response to Nielby vibekeft,Hi Niel
Thanks for the answer. My computer runs Mac OS X 10.11.3, so i've got Photos. It is just that I liked iPhoto better. I'm not that used to photos. Maybe I should just start using it. -
Aug 21, 2016 8:02 AM in response to vibekeftby LarryHN,Yes - iPhoto is a dead product and will quit working someday with out warning during some upgrade - Photos is a new and different program with different work flows but in nearly every way better once you learn it - learning Photos is your best approach

Aug 21, 2016 8:19 AM in response to vibekeftby léonie,My iPhoto stopped working so I deleted the app. But then i found out that I wasn't able to reinstall it.
In what way did iPhoto stop working? Has the iPhoto icon been crossed out to indicate, that your current iPhoto version has not been compatible with El Capitan? Only iPhoto 9.6.1 can run on El Capitan. If your iPhoto version stopped working, because it was to old and has not been compatible, migrating your iPhoto lIbrary to Photos will be the best option. See: Updating from iPhoto to Photos for OS X - Apple Support
But if iPhoto has been working on El Capitan and suddenly stopped working with crashes or similar, your iPhoto library may have problems and it would be good to find out, why iPhoto stopped working, before you try to migrate the library to Photos. Then it would be better to repair or rebuild the iPhoto Library in iPhoto before you migrate it to Photos. Have you tried to restore the iPhoto application from the last Time Machine backup you made before you deleted iPhoto?
