Q: iCloud sign in on macbook pro requests verification code

Finally decided to change my id password this morning. I had been putting it off as I knew it would create problems and sure enough it did. The password is changed and I am able to sign in to iCloud via web browser but when I go to system preferences and try to sign in I get this continuous loop of

TYPE YOUR PASSWORD FOLLOWED BY THE VERIFICATION CODE SHOWN ON YOUR OTHER DEVICES.

I get that code and then there is no where to type it in. Even when I close system preferences and start again it sends me another code.

I want to be able to manage the iCloud storage via my Macbook Pro but I can no longer access it.
