Every now and then my mbp will be completely unresponsive due to a process called "distnoted" consuming 100%cpu over a period of time.
Why is this happening? Is that a virus? I have 16GB RAM + SSD - surely that should be high enough specs to run OSX 10.11?

The good news is that it isn’t a virus. This process was created by Apple and runs along side iTunes to provide mobile device support. I would just try and force quit the application. http://www.groovypost.com/howto/distnoted-exe-process-running-background-safe/

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. You are welcome. I'm not 100% sure, but I doubt it is a virus because currently there are no known viruses that affect a Mac.
