Battery is not charging and drain while plugged in and in use

Hi everyone,

I have a macbook pro retina 15” mid-2015, the battery charge only when the mac is sleep or turned off or not in use, the battery condition is normal and it take about 8 hours to drain completely but when it get to 0% the mac get shut down (not sleep) and won’t turn on until the battery get charged a little

I have bought a new magsafe2 85W adapter from apple store, resetting smc and pram, clear ac port… nothing worked…

For now I can’t take it for repair, apple repair service are too far away from my city, in my city there are just apple store without repair service.

Whats causing this problem ?

First I would try to isolate the problem. Like is it the Charger at fault or the MacBook.

Simple way to test that is by plugging the charger into a MacBook as well, if you have one.

Alternatively check here If your power adapter isn't charging your MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) and later - Apple Support

And Here Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Hope this helps, best of luck to you.

You may have to replace the battery if it has been ran flat too often

because that compromises the ability to fully recharge the cells...

Troubleshooting the source of issues can take on other angles of

approach to see what may be a problem in charger/battery path.

Your 15-inch MacBook Pro specification is different than 12-inch MacBook

with retina display; the small newer type MacBook 12 doesn't use Magsafe.

And depending on a diagnostic test performed by an expert, other

issues/answers may surface. You may be able to get the device to

work OK by resetting the SMC (read through to see correct method)

From iFixit online repair guides page, shows compatible replacement battery for your model:

Perhaps just an SMC reset may help somewhat.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
