Q: After loss of power, Apple TV (4th Gen) forgets control of Receiver Volume

Hi all.  I've been repeatedly frustrated by my Apple TV (4th Gen) forgetting how to control the volume on my Sony receiver after power loss.  This has happened three times now and going through Settings and turning things off and on and restarting, both with and without the receiver powered on - nothing works.  Auto (for the Apple TV auto-controlling the receiver) simply doesn't work.  The only fix I've been able to find the last two times is a complete reset/restore of the Apple TV.

This has me baffled.  On initial setup and after the restores, the Apple TV has no problem with this and automatically has the volume control for the receiver going from the get-go.

HDMI connection to the receiver which is connected to an HDTV with HDMI as well.

Anyone else out there experience this and/or have a solution?

Hi. I'm not sure about Auto, but as an alternative, you could train the Siri remote to use the receiver's optical remote commands. That wouldn't be affected by power failures. See Control your TV or receiver with your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote - Apple Support for how-to.

Sure, but this would be IR control only - line of sight.  I can turn this on with out the learning steps.  I wish to have the non-line of sight bluetooth capabilities that *should* be automatic.

I wonder if your problem is with the receiver, not the ATV. The ATV likely just sends out HDMI-CEC volume commands. But the receiver may not have recognized it. Can you check the configuration of HDMI-CEC on the receiver?

Also, you might consider a UPS for ATV and receiver. That way, only a long blackout results in loss of power. The idea, of course, is not to keep things running during the blackout, but to avoid loss of configuration settings. I did this after may receiver lost everything in a sparky incident.

The Sony receiver is a relatively minimalist setup.  No configuration or settings to be lost.  A complete reset of the Apple TV allows it to auto-configure as advertised.  Again, this is a feature that is supposedly able to be turned on (Auto) and off in it's settings.  This should work.
