Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes.

While your device is connected, force restart it: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, and don't release when you see the Apple logo.

Keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen and wait for it to restore.

You may have to do the above more than once as recovery mode is difficult to get into.

Restore as New first and test it. Then restore from backup if desired. If the backup is corrupted it will likely bring back the issue.

If the above steps do not help, you may have to take it to an Apple store for testing.

Here are your options for auto-booting to recovery mode.
1.) The signal to the phone to boot into recovery mode is prompting the phone to boot with the usb cord connected while home button is held down.  If you have a phone with home button damage that "thinks" you are pressing the home button, that can be one cause of this problem.  Solution---prompt to boot with usb and then immediately remove usb and let the phone boot.  Even if the phone "thinks" the home button is pressed, if the usb cable is not present during boot it will boot into normal mode

2.) You can force the phone into DFU mode, not recovery mode, and then attempt to restore the phone from there.  This can solve some software corruptions in the iBoot bootloader software that would not be solved simply by update or restore from recovery mode.   Google how to enter DFU mode vs recovery mode.

You are going to have to tell us what the specific issue you are encountering when you are trying to erase and restore your device. We can't help if you don't tell us what the issue is.
