Mail signatures fail issue

The signature "insertion" block in Mail seems to have gotten confused or something. I can only get one signature to work. I have gone into the Preferences and edited several times, but none of the edits will work. I have tried deleting any plist or preference files that seem likely, but, clearly have missed something here. Suggestions of where to look would be appreciated.
