iPhone calendar not syncing with MBP

I have an up to date iPhone 6 plus and an up to date MacBook Pro.

When syncing, the MBP calendar will sync with the iPhone, but the iPhone calendar won't sync to the MBP. iTunes is set to backup all calendars to the computer for the last 4000 days. This has always worked (and currently works properly with another 6+ and an iMac), but I recently noticed the calendars on the MBP weren't syncing properly. I've tried turning the calendar sync off and back on from the MBP, but there was no change.

I also noticed there's an unintended "untitled" calendar that isn't used but is shown in iTunes. Even when deleting this calendar from the iPhone, when I sync, it just shows up again.

How can I get both calendars to sync properly .. while not using the iCloud?

Thanks.

I was finally able to fix this issue.

Here's what I found: I first tried deleting the calendar cached items in the hidden library, the pending items and anything that was extra and old in the built in folders, restarted the MBP, but that didn't help. I was going to start deleting the .calendar folders when I noticed "one of these is not like the others" .. who said you don't learn anything in pre-school?

One of the folders was a .caldav. I didn't have anything like that on my Mac, so after some searching online, I decided to delete the .caldav folder and see what happened. About 10 seconds after removing the .caldav folder, calendar went blank .. NO entries at all. I was concerned that if I now synced the iPhone to iTunes, the iPhone calendar would be blanked. However, after about 20 seconds, out of the blue the calendar items reappeared. So I synced the iPhone to iTunes and IT WORKED.

The only issue was getting rid of some duplicate calendar folders.

MAKE SURE that when you delete duplicate calendar folders you're deleting the one NOT being used. The best way to test this is to make two different calendar entries .. one using the upper duplicate (labeled 'upper') and one using the lower duplicate (labeled 'lower') as seen in the list of calendars, sync and see which one shows up in the synced device. Delete the calendar that didn't sync.
