iOS 9.3.4 update for iPad apps disappearing?

A number of iPad 2 users at our school have had their apps mysteriously disappearing after installing the iOS 9.3.4 update, which we were strongly encouraged to perform for the security enhancement. Anyone else run into this, and if so, how to remedy?
