Q: App store Login Problem!
Hi,
I'm running a 21.5" iMac with OS X El Captan 10.11.5. My problem is that I'm not being able to sign into iCloud and the App Store on my Mac.
The error I get is "There was an error connecting to the Apple ID Server"
The same username and password works perfectly well on the iCloud website, my app store on the iPhone and the iPad but not on the Mac.
Could it be the way that my iMac communicates via the internet? We have a firewall. And oh, the software update for El Capitan is being downloaded as I type; it didn't even ask me for login details, just started downloading automatically. A similar thing happened yesterday with the updates being shown on the update tab on the app store - they were getting downloaded yesterday without asking for my login credentials but that was a rare occurrence; the login problems that I've described above have been happening for the last month or so.
How can I fix this?

Strangely enough, the El Capitan update didn't ask me for my login details and downloaded the update, while the other software wouldn't download because it couldn't connect to the server.
UPDATE: The other updates are being downloaded as I type, this time without connection errors. I haven't yet been able to implement the links you sent, but it's working!!
So I'm happy but at the same time a little irritated coz I don't know what's going on. I guess I'll have to wait for another time to re-post this.
