Q: 4S suddenly powered off. Will not power up.

iPhone 4S 16GB.  Just completed a back up to MacBook.  Ejected iPhone 4S from the Mac.  Unplugged USB and iPhone 4S went to black screen.  Unable to power up.  During back up, discovered iPhone 4S was up to date and no updates were available.

If you haven't already try and hard reset your device (Hold down sleep/wake and home).

Hope this helps, best of luck to you.

Reset your device by holding down the Home and Power buttons until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds - no kidding). If you see the Apple the device is resetting, and the Slide to Unlock screen will display shortly.

The key to the reset of my iPhone was holding the Home and Power buttons longer.  Your suggestion of (up to 30 seconds - no kidding), was the solution.  Thanks!

YAY!!! I like to be overcautious. The actual, normal 15 - 20 seconds works most of the time, but for a lot of people, 15 seconds goes by a lot faster for them than for the Universal Clock.... So, I embellish a bit to provide a bit of encouragement to hold on past where they might think 15 or 20 seconds or so is.....

Cheers and glad you are all set!
