unable to install win10 using bootcamp from iso file

i am on OSX EL Capitan, fully updated.

Boot camp is not allowing me to use ISO file to install windows 10 iso file.

it keeps prompting "NO USB Drive. there is no usb drive connected to the system. Please insert a USB drive to continue"

it doesnt allow me to use the iso file no matter which option i check or uncheck. this is extremely frustrating.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

What is the year/model of your Mac? Your signature says 2013 iMac.

2015 and later Macs use only the ISO and create an internal partition called OSXRESERVED.

2012-2014 Macs need an external USB2 Flash drive, which will be erased/formatted by BC Assistant. The ISO file should be unmounted and some contents of the ISO are copied to the USB.

2011 and older Macs use a physical Windows DVD and need to built-in Optical drive to be fully functional.

hmm, I am getting stuck installing Windows 10 and I suspected it was the USB3 flash drive (I get "No Bootable Device" when Boot Camp reboots to install even if I use Option-boot to select the USB drive). So to confirm on my late 2012 iMAC I can install Windows 10 using Boot Camp but I need to use a USB2 drive with at least 8 gigs?

Thanks.

A USB2 is less problematic. 8+GB USB2 should work. If your past attempts have failed, run an SMC/NVRAM Reset as well.
