iMovie options greyed out

iMovie options greyed out

I am using iMovie 10.1.2 with Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6. When I click on File in the iMovie menu bar, the options to create a new movie or new trailer are greyed out. Any idea how to un-grey them?

I tried closing iMovie, trashing the Settings.plist file, then re-opening iMovie, but that did not fix the problem.

Hi,

You need to be in the Projects browser before the New Movie and New Trailer options will show. On the top left of your screen click on the Projects button to get there. Then you can use the file menu to create a new movie, or, alternatively, click on the gray square with the + sign in it, labeled "create new".
