Q: Making a guitar track on Garageband iMac?

Here is my problem.

I know how to play guitar. I want to figure out a melody on my acoustic first and then

go to Garageband and make the melody there. I don't want to record my playing. I want to do the melody

with garageband. The only problem is that I can't find any other way to make this melody but a)manually clicking notes which is very slow or b) recording with Garageband keyboard. The problem is that I know how to play guitar but not piano. Is there any way to just pop in chords that you want your guitar track to play? Or is there a guitar look-alike in the mac version of the garageband where I could choose from which part of the neck I want it to play. Mixing piano/keyboard to playing guitar is not very handy. If I make a chord on piano - say G chord - and change the instrument to guitar, it sounds about correct I think. But it's just a pain to make it this way. And besides piano chord vs guitar chord seem to have different amounts of individual notes in them. So for example strumming slowly would not sound exactly the same when the chord is made with piano/keyboard even though the instrument would be guitar. Please help my creativity to reach new levels. If I would find out that I can make a guitar track just by placing chords on it or marking from a guitar neck look alike what to play (same style as piano) I would be quite happy.
