Q: Iphone 5S screen black and touch not working

Hi guys, this is my problem:

I've an iPhone 5S. I haven't made any external damage to it.

Yesterday morning it started to not respond to any input on the touch screen even though the buttons (home, volume, lock) worked. I tried several times to reset it pressing home+lock, but it didn't worked (the reset worked but the problem remained). After a while the screen went black but the phone kept working. Now, the screen is dark and if I press the lock button a voice says "Screen locked".

I tried also to reset it using iTunes, but, even though the reset worked on the iTunes interface, when I had to log in my account Apple to activate the phone appeared the message "no sim in iPhone, insert sim and reconnect" (and I've not extracted the sim).

Any suggestion? May it be an hardware issue?

Thank you

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.4

    Hello federico.chiarlo,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Based on your post, I see that your iPhone's screen is dark, and if you press the lock button a voice says that the screen is locked. You have tried to reset the iPhone using iTunes, which worked in iTunes, but then you still have an issue with the black screen and received a no SIM message, and to insert the SIM and reconnect.

I rely on my iPhone daily. So, I know how critical it is that we get this issue resolved. I have a couple of things that I would like you to try.

First, if you have a backup of your iPhone, I would recommend trying to restore to that backup and see if it resolves the issue. The following article will help:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Then, use the article If you get an alert about the SIM card in your iPhone for the SIM card alert, specifically, this section:

    1. Make sure that you have an active plan with your wireless carrier.
    2. Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
    3. Go to Settings and turn on airplane mode. Wait about 10 seconds, then turn off Airplane Mode.
    4. Restart your iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until you see the slider. Drag the slider to turn off your device. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    5. Check for a carrier settings update. Go to Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you'll see a prompt to select OK or Update.
    6. Remove your SIM card from the SIM card tray and then put the SIM card back. Make sure that the SIM tray closes completely and isn’t loose. If you use a SIM tray from a different model iPhone or from another phone manufacturer, it might not fit properly.
    7. Try using another SIM card. If you don't have one, go to your carrier's retail store and ask them to test with another SIM card. You might need to replace your SIM card.

If you still see an alert about your SIM card, contact Apple support.

    Best Regards.
