Q: Songs on ipod corrupted, freeze ipod when played.

Hello everyone. So i have an ipod video 120gb from 2011. I recently bought alot of music and have been usong it alot. Yesterday though the ipod was frozen and when plugged into itunes it claimed to be in recovery mode and asked me to synchronized (i dont have any music on my new mac thus this would delete my entire library)

I let the ipod die and this morning charged it and it works. I downloaded iexplorer and tried transfering all my music just in case but some songs did not transfer at all including some of my newer songs. Some of these i was listening to 2 days ago, now when i try to play them the ipod freezes, shows the apple logo and after 3 minutes or so restarts.

Is there anyway to repair any damaged songs (and what causes the corruption?) I rather not have to buy the music again.

I rather not have to buy the music again.

Songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be downloaded again at no cost.

Download your past purchases - Apple Support

So, if you can download them again into your current iTunes library, you should do so and and then do a Restore on the iPod.  It may have data corruption, which caused the song files on it to become corrupted.  If there's no hardware problem on the iPod, doing the Restore should resolve that problem.  Then, sync your songs back to the iPod.
