Q: transferring folders to my iPhone

I have no idea which to put this one so I'll start here.  Number one I hate photos.  I miss iPhoto but once I committed to ElCapitan I had no choice but to move on.  I have certain folders of photos I have been trying to get on my iPhone but can't seem to get it to sync.  I sync my phone through iTunes.  I know way old school, but that's how I do it.  I don't like having my pictures automatically in the cloud.  That's overkill for me.  I have tried everything but I can't get my folders transferred.  Help!.  I don't get any system error messages or anything.  Just nothing happens.  They don't appear after I select the folders I want moved.  I even tried moving all of the folders I have set up and nothing.

You can not sync albums or folders using iTunes - you can only do it using iCloud Photos Library

With iTunes you can only sync photos - no organization

It gives me the option to select folders, that just is there?  Sorry to be obtuse but this really really bugs me.  So if I have to use iCloud photos library how would I do that?

That's what I meant, albums.  I need my different albums, but they are not transferring.  Just My camera roll and faces.

    again

With iTunes you can only sync photos - no organization

In iTunes you select a folder and sync the photos in that folder - not the folder

for ICPL you enable it on all devices you want and log all into the same iCloud account and they automatically sync - photos and organization - all changes (additions, deletions or edits) made on any device are made on all devices including iCloud.com - for devices with limited storage you use optimized photos in them

So basically you have to pay apple the extra cloud storage though right?  I have iCloud storage but I don't think enough to do this. ARGH.  I really Miss iPhoto now.

Restart your computer, then try a simple Reset of your device while it is connected to iTunes: hold down the Home and Power buttons until you see the Apple logo (10-20 seconds).

    Not at all

You do not have to us Photos at all - you can use any software you want

You do not have to use iCloud Photo Library at all - it too is totally optional

Of course if you want to have the features of any service you have to pay for that service - if you want to fly someplace you have to purchase a ticker - if you want more leg room you have to pay more - it you want business class you have to pay even more - that is the way the world works - companies offer you services and if you want to use them then you have to pay for them - Apple gives you Photos fro free and you choose to use it or not - they give you a number of options including iTunes sync an image capture for free and they give you a 5 GB started storage for free - if you want more then of course you have to pay - do you go to work every day and expect no pay for your time? Neither do Apple employees nor does Apple expect nothing for providing you with optional services

Understood but to have this as the only option to be able to organize my pictures the way I want after having spent thousands of dollars already on the programs and equipment its not like I'm asking for extra freebies.  I have an IMac and I have an IPhone 6plus.  With IPhoto I could organize my photos with folders simply by synching my phone with iTunes.  My point is why now should I have to pay for this as that's apparently what I will have to do as the only way to do this with photo is doing it in the cloud is what you're telling me.  It's not like I'm using a free computer from Apple or a free phone.  Or a free IPad Pro.  I simply want to put my folders that I have set up on my IMac on my phone - too much to ask without paying an extra fee?  I don't think so.

Oh and apple took away the option to use the program I wanted if I want to keep my copmputer up to date.  I preferred IPhoto.  So yes, they should let me do it free.

So I did all of this.  I enabled iCloud.  I paid for the extra storage.  set everything up.  restarted computer and phone and still my albums on my phone do not match the albums on photo.  This is so frustrating.  I can't even get it to work when I"m paying extra.

It is not iCloud - it is iCloud Photo Library and must be enabled on all devices and all devices logged into iCloud with the same Apple ID and It is not instantious - it takes time adn nothing downloads until all uploads are complete - wait until every status us updated just now and then everything will be the same on all devices - patience is a virtue

No since you are doing something that iPhoto could not do at all
