I get to the last step of the suggestion of preparing my MacBook Pro for sale and cannot get an OS X (LION) download from Apple stores after logging in there and with everything erased. Anyone out there who can help?

You just need to restore to factory settings. You don't need to worry about OS X Lion.

If you are near an Apple Store they can do that for you.
You can make an appointment at an Apple Genius Bar in advance.
