Q: issue with iPhoto import because updated iphone

I just got home from our summer vacation and was trying to simultaneously trying to import family pics while updating my iPhone 6s with the latest software. It was a very stupid idea and unfortunately I can't get iPhoto (version 8.1.2 (424)) to import any of the pics off of my iPhone now. I closed iPhoto and tried re-opening it, which never worked. I tried restarting my iMac and that never worked either. iPhoto opens okay, I clicked on import, it starts but stops and gives me a message "1124 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that were not imported. Would you like to import them?". I clicked on yes, then I clicked on "import all". As soon as the import starts I get a message "Error downloading image. iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image".

PLEASE HELP, the pics that I can't import contain very memorable times from our family vacation including my children's bday party.

As soon as the import starts I get a message "Error downloading image. iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image".

The problem isn't with iPhoto it's that one (or more) of the files on the camera is faulty or damaged.

Can you get them off with Image Capture (in the Applications Folder)? With this app you can move them from the phone in batches, or even individually, which might help narrow down the damaged image.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that didn't work either. Well, it downloaded ALL of the images, but when it opened iPhoto to import the pics and vids to there, a new message came up "Error writing to disk. iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPhoto library."

I assume that the volume means my iMac's hard drive or where the iPhoto library is located. A few years ago I moved my iPhoto library to an external hard drive to free up space on my iMac's hard drive. There is 1.7 TB free of 3 TB on my external hard drive. My iMac's 500 GB SATA Disk has 100.37 free of 499.25GB.

"Error writing to disk. iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPhoto library."

That is your external drive - what format is it and how is it connected to your Mac? Run Disk Utility and verify the drive

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I'm not sure of the format. It is connected to my iMac via the USB port on the back. I ran the Disk Utility, but could not click on & verify the drive. After I opened Disk Utility, I got a message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer. Initialize, ignore, eject".

So it sounds like the EHD has failed - time to restore your backup
