Cannot power on my ipod classic 120G, it clicks audibly then turns off

When I power on my ipod classic 120G, a clicking noise happens. One that is fairly loud and I can feel. The normal apple image appears when this happens, then after a few seconds of trying to boot up, the screen has a large red "X" with a circle around it before it shuts itself off. This is a sudden change with no warning. Can I fix this problem???
