Q: Macbook Pro Battery Not Charging

This is my problem:  My Macbook tells me "Battery is not charging" whenever it is plugged in.  Without the plug, my battery drains within 2-3 hours.  I've used other chargers to make sure mine isn't broken, I've tried different wall outlets, I've reset the SMC, system information says my battery is in healthy condition, I've let my battery drain 100% and did a full recharge, nothing has fixed this problem.  Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), Mid 2014 Macbook Pro, bought new.

    Howdy Johnathon!

Thank you for doing some great troubleshooting steps already in regards to your MacBook telling you that it isn't charging.  Being able to charge the battery and have it last for a decent amount of time is critical to being able to use it for daily tasks so let's figure this out together.  Since you've already done most of the troubleshooting, one thing that we'd want to do is make sure that the connectors were clean by following these steps:

    1. Checking for and cleaning debris from your MagSafe connectors

Be sure to regularly inspect and clean both the MagSafe adapter connector and the power port on your Apple portable computer for dirt or signs of damage.

Example of a MagSafe connector on an Apple computer that requires cleaning to remove debris.

To clean the MagSafe port on your Mac Notebook, disconnect the adapter from the wall outlet. Remove debris gently with a cotton swab or a soft bristle toothbrush. Be careful not to get any cotton fibers stuck in the MagSafe in port. Note: Remove the battery from the computer if you are using a Mac Notebook with a removable battery.

To clean the MagSafe connector and pin area, disconnect the adapter from the wall outlet and from the computer. Remove debris gently with a cotton swab or a soft bristle toothbrush. Be careful not to get any cotton fibers stuck in the pin receptacle and to not bend or otherwise damage any of the pins.
