Change the OS X user account name and home folder name on your Mac - Apple Support
Hope this helps, best of luck to you.
I Need this answer, too. Gave my husband my laptop and it still comes up as my computer anytime that you look at a list of what computers are on line, etc. it's not a user name, but referring to the hardware.
Hi Harvey, you should have followed this Apple Support Topic:

You need to erase the drive and reinstall OS X, or you will forever be stuck with his Apple ID and will be unable to upgrade, register your Mac or use other functions. Backup all your data first. then follow the steps in this Apple Support Topic under "Erase your hard drive and re-install OS X. It will re-install the original OS and you will upgrade to latest OS.
Follow macjack's advice. The direct answer is System Preferences/Sharing.
Well, he will just have to live with it!
Marsue - for your issue specifically, the change takes less than 1 minute.
1. Click apple icon (top left of screen)
2. Select "System Preferences"
3. Select "Sharing"
4. Type a new name into the "Computer Name" box
5. Close out of Preferences - you're done.
If you'd like to confirm the change was successful, open Finder and look under "Devices" in the sidebar. (if it's not visible there, you can select Finder > Preferences, and see it under "Devices" there.
THANK YOU!!!
