Q: Has anyone had any issues since upgrading to this security update their computers saying they are out of Application Memory

I am using a using a mid 2011 iMac. Since getting the latest security update it has been showing out of application memory.

I have stopped using Safari which has made it more reliable and have clean up all my top sites and made sure that there are no extensions and my logon items are at a minimum.

It occurs on multiple accounts, even a new one that I have created. To me it appears that there is a fault with the update affecting the model I am using.

A Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that can help after an OS X update.

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
    3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Hopefully you won't see, "out of allocation memory" ...

That won't help. It's Application Memory, not allocation memory.

If I restart the computer and force clear the virtual memory it solves the problem for a while but it returns without warning.

The iMac has 12GB of RAM but it at times can have upwards of 60GB of virtual memory.

The only thing I can think of is a problem in the way the latest update works when it comes to memory allocation with virtual memory and it creating a memory leak.

In all other respects the computer is working fine.
