Q: MacBook Pro not working with Dell monitor

I'm connecting my MacBook Pro (13", mid 2012, running OSX El Capitan, version 10.11.6) to an old Dell 1908WFP monitor through a VGA cable with Mac dongle.  The monitor is too dark and it's all blue. I've tried using the adjustments on the monitor itself and the calibrate color options in system preferences on the Mac.  Nothing changes.  Any ideas?

    Well hey there Larch23!

I certainly hope you're doing well this fantastic day and I want to welcome you to the Apple Support Communities! It's really convenient to utilize more than one display with that beautiful computer of yours! You're on the right track and I certainly want to ensure that the monitor is working up to par. One thing to note, because we're working with Mac and Dell hardware here, it may be worth while to scope out the Dell support site as well. As for your Mac, have a look over this resource:

Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac

If drivers need to be updated, you may need to connect that display with a Windows machine in order to update the drivers. It looks like Dell might offer a firmware update for that display which you can check out on their support site for that monitor:

I hope you continue to have a phenomenal day!
