Sending SMS from iPad Air 2

I Have had my iPad Air 2 since Christmas and have always been able to text my husband on his Sony z1 from the iPad. He recently upgraded to a z3 and now i can no longer send text messages to him. Why is this? It can't be because of compatibility issues as he was able to receive text on his old phone. He is the only person I know who doesn't have an iPhone, so I'd rather not have to download an app just for texting him, especially as I could text his old phone.

Sorry for rambling, can anyone shed any light on this?

On your phone, check Settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding>your iPad Air 2. Make sure that is selected. Make sure that your phone is near by and connected to the same WiFi network as well.

You can check this as well.

Do you have an iPhone by any chance? I'm asking because you can't use iPad to send SMS text messages to phones without an iPhone. If you do have an iPhone, try sending text directly from the iPhone to his new phone. See if that works.

TThank you both for your answers, I don't seem to have a text message section in my settings. It goes Settings>messages>iMessage, there is no option for text message.

i Can text him from my phone and my apple watch, just not my iPad for some reason??

Ok so it sounds like there's a problem with continuity. Try pressing the power and home keys simultaneously and keep holding them. Release the keys when your iPad restarts.
