Q: iMAC freeze and really loud speaker white noise

Recent onset of two crash types.  Reinstalled software. PRAM, NVRAM, SMC reset done.  Looking for thoughts or advice.

1)

iMac freezes and then there is a horrible white noise coming from the speakers.  After about 20 seconds the computer restarts.  Sometimes restart works.  Other times restart gives the hardware error beeps.

2)

iMac freezes and then give a windows-like blue screen of death with lots of numbers displayed on left upper corner of screen.  Sometimes restart works.  Other times restart gives the hardware error beeps.

Every system diagnostic I have run for the disk, hardware and memory have passed.

There was a previous thread about this white noise issue that Apple locked and there was no resolution to it.

    Hello berrisj1,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that your iMac has been freezing, and you hear a noise coming from the speakers. Also, it has been freezing and giving you an error message with numbers displayed on the upper left corner of the screen. After 20 seconds the computer restarts, and it sometimes starts up fine, but other times you get hardware error beeps.

I understand the importance of having a computer that remains on, and doesn't interfere with what you are doing. Let's work together and find the best resolution to this issue.

First, please look at the article OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem.", and see if the error message you are receiving is similar to the message in this article.

Then, you mentioned that memory has passed your system diagnostics test, but I would like to share an article with you to see if you are getting any of these tones when starting up:

    About Mac computer startup tones

And finally, I would also recommend starting your computer into safe mode, and testing to see if you get the same freeze issue. Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. The following article will help you start into safe mode:

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

    Best Regards.
