Q: iPhone associated with another Apple ID -- not mine!

I bought a used iPhone from an online dealer (not Apple). When I try to get help with this phone, Apple tells me that phone is associated with another Apple ID (not mine) so they cannot help me. What to do?

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.4

There is nothing you can do except return it for a refund.

What do you mean by "try to get help with this phone"? Are you trying to call for support? Take it in for warranty service? Something else? The warranty follows the phone and is not associated with an individual or Apple ID.

If it is activation locked with someone else's ID, only the owner of the ID can remove the lock.

I wanted to "report" a bug (or error) in the photo app. I went through a long process only to discover that Apple only takes "reports" from registered devices. And as my iphone is apparently (in their records) still associated with another user (another Apple ID), they could not (i.e. would not) help me. It make we wonder about the day I really need help and Apple will say, it is not my phone. Just wondering how to get the phone associated with my Apple ID. Any ideas?
