Q: Faulty graphics card
Hello, I have a mid 2010 21.5 (MC508LL/A) imac that has a bad graphics card. I had this confirmed by an Apple authorized repair shop. I got an estimate of $643.00 for the repair which I cannot do at this time. I heard you can connect a second monitor to the Mac if you want to run two monitors at the same time. My question is, can I buy the correct cable to connect another monitor and use that monitor as my main monitor until i can afford the repair, or does the graphics card in the Mac have to be good to run the second monitor? I am not very tech savvy so I hope this question doesn't sound too ridiculous!!
Thanks in advance for any input.

The graphics card has to be in good shape to run an external display. Once you have the repair performed then you can connect an external display.
