Q: Bad Info from Apple Tech Support?

I want to transfer my data from a windows pc to my new Mac Air so I bought a USB 3.0 / ethernet adapter. The tech support person told me that it wouldn't work and that I would need a thunderbolt / ether net adapter. Is this correct?

I read all that. My question is whether or not a USB 3.0 port to ethernet port cable will work. Tech support said it wouldn't but I'm questioning that answer.

The path to connect Ethernet to a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) is as stated:

Ethernet:    Optional Apple USB Ethernet Adapter -or- Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
USB:    2 - up to 5 Gbps
Thunderbolt:    1 - up to 20 Gbps

So it would appear you can choose; in some instances this is very good because you may be
able to workaround another product already using one of those two ports; so choose the other.

Be sure to get an adapter of known quality; some third party models may not be to spec.
