A time capsule is not portable .. nor is it designed for what you want... albeit certainly it will work but you cannot use USB.. it must connect to the laptop over ethernet or wireless.

A 2TB portable 2.5" hard disk is hugely cheaper.. hugely faster.. and super hugely more reliable.

That is assuming you are talking about a laptop not ipad or something.

The Time Capsule was not designed to be "portable"and as such, it does not "travel" well at all. Simply not recommended.

Far better to use a hard drive that is designed for the kind of use that you are asking about.  Something like the "Rugged" products that you see here, for example:

Disclaimer:  I have no interest in Lacie products other than that as a customer.

I want to be able to lets say go to a cottage or camping and don't have Internet. Could I still access movies, music, etc without Internet?

Ok.. if you need a wireless hard disk then TC can certainly work but it is the kind of thing I would buy a second hand Gen3 or Gen4 from ebay whatever. The latest TC is really too expensive and too fragile for this kind of use.

You will need to use VLC or something on the ipad as iTunes library on the TC will not work without a computer in the network.
