Apple TV video stops after 8:58 minutes

On Apple TV 3rd gen with latest update and I am trying to watch tv episodes on the NBC app. After 8:58, 8:59, or 9:00 minutes the video stops playing and will not resume regardless of how long I leave it alone. I have tried restarting AppleTV, router, changing settings including DNS and nothing works to fix it.

Does anyone know about this?

Similarly if I try to watch CNN when it goes to the commercial break part it stops and will not resume. This does not happen with CNN International.

Other streaming video channels including Youtube and other tv networks work fine without this happening - also Home Sharing if fine. It just seems to be a problem with NBC and CNN.

I am on Comcast with a 90/12 connection and very strong signal strength.

Are you trying to watch episodes that require a cable contract when you don't have a cable contract? They may be just giving you a teaser.

No, I have a cable contract and have NBC and CNN and have entered the activate/login info.

I've seen this reported before but I don't recall the reason or the solution. I haven't been able to find any reference with a quick search but search on the Apple communities is a bit useless so it might take some time. I don't know if you want to try a search yourself, the answer is out there somewhere, I've seen it before, but it may take a little finding.

Just guessing, but it may need to connect to a different server to access commercials. Is your DNS setup straightforward, or are you using some special service? Are your region and time zone settings consistent with your actual location? Are Location Services enabled? On ATV 4 they're under Settings > General > Privacy, but I don't know about ATV 3.

Yes that is what I thought too but changing the DNS has not worked to fix it, I have tried Google and OpenDNS. Also my location is setup correctly.

You could check Settings > General > Sleep After. Make sure it's a large value.

Update to my issue. I ditched the Comcast / Xfinity issued router and purchased a Netgear R7000. All my problems are gone. All streaming channels now work fine with no cut-off.
