Apple recommends that each person should have their own Apple ID.
This will help to avoid any issues with using iMessage and other services.
Should you wish to share eligible past and future purchases, you can still do so via Family Sharing. Should you wish, this also enables you to approve or decline purchase requests made by any children via Ask to Buy:

Aug 24, 2016 7:37 AM in response to Berrelezfamby Lawrence Finch,Apple IDs can (and should) be shared between devices used by the same person (such as an iPhone, Mac and/or iPad), but are not intended to be shared between different users. Apple provides Family Sharing, which allows different Apple IDs to share apps, music and calendars, but keeps other content private. This is by far the preferred way to manage Apple devices among different users.
It's still possible to prevent message and call sharing if you share an Apple ID, but it is fairly complicated to configure. You need to go into settings for Settings/Facetime and Settings/Messages and disable all of the sharing options. This will not prevent sharing of contacts, backup space in iCloud and iCloud Drive, photos, videos, and many other types of content, however. And it will not prevent one family member from viewing messages of another family member if they choose to.

Aug 24, 2016 8:08 AM in response to Berrelezfamby Scott7130,The answer like the others have said is because you a sharing the same Apple ID. think of the Apple ID has the key to everything including calls and messages. Use seperate apple Id's and Research "Family Sharing" and set it up. It's fairly easy to set up.
